Did you know the fact behind Apple doesn't want to change their lightning port to USB type-C? 2020

Apple likes to control their entire product ecosystem. Part of this is financial: Apple gets about 30% of the profit on any item that goes onto an iPhone. That’s apps and media sold through the iTunes store, and its licensed hardware products.

That 30% Royalty :-

The Lightning Port is the means by which Apple enforces this for hardware products. There are patents that cover Lightning, and in order to legally sell a Lightning product, you have to pay Apple. There’s also a digital “tag” chip in a Lightning connector that tells iOS information about the device, so it knows what to do with that device.

When you connect a device to a Lightning port, there’s a bit of power and a few signals used to identify the device. But aside from that, it does nothing. The ID chip describes the attached device, and enables the connections necessary (power, USB, etc) in order to support the attached device. So even something as simple as a power cable needs the right magical incantations, or there’s no charging.

What Does Type-C Buy? :-

The other question would be, what’s the advantage to Apple of Type-C? Charging? Well, they have that already. Current iPhones use USB Power Delivery over Lightning, you simply need a Lightning power cable, but you can use any old Type-C power brick (aka, “charger”).

Interface speed? Well, sure. Apple did support USB 3.1 over Lightning on at least one of the iPads Pro, but it had issues. But does Apple really need USB 3.1 speeds? Does anyone, with a phone? Quite a few of the Type-C phones on the market only implement USB 2.0. So that IS an open question.

system-on-chip processor in it :-

Video? This one is a yes, if they actually want wired video out of the iPhone. But this is also a money-loser for Apple. Currently, you can buy a Lightning to VGA or a Lightning to HDMI converter. But this is actually a very clever hack. Lightning is far too slow for video… but then again, so is Wifi, and yet, you can easily stream your iPhone video to an Apple TV. So what Apple did here was pretty much evil genius stuff. If you get a Lightning video adapter, it’s got a system-on-chip processor in it. The Lightning Port goes into USB mode between the phone and the video dongle. The phone sends the same AVC compressed video stream that would go to Apple TV, and that SOC uncompresses it to VGA or HDMI.

So with Type-C, they could run HDMI, MHL, or DisplayPort, and you’d just need a cable. But other than the money thing, Apple would actually have to have a digital video interface on their current SOCs. Mainstream chips from companies like Qualcomm do, because they’re used in hundreds of devices, and some require a digital monitor connection. But Apple would rather you do it wirelessly, and they don’t want to impact the cost of their next A-series chip to support this for a tiny percentage of the market.

Apple did go to Type-C for the iPad  :-

Apple did go to Type-C for the iPad Pro. That’s because they’re trying to sell that as a laptop or PC-tablet alternative. They need the Type-C features for that market more than they need to sell add-on Lightning dongles. Type-C seems to make sense for phones, since 88% or so of the phones being sold on planet earth use USB jacks, and they’re all moving to Type-C if they’re not there yet. But there’s at least a rumor around that Apple will replace the Lightning connector with NO connector. Given WiFi, Bluetooth, and wireless charging, they may not have a motivation to have a next-generation connector.

It’s Not About Thickness :-

Fanbois will immediately tell you that the Lightning jack is necessary to keep iPhones thin, compared to the competition using Type-C or even the old Micro-B connector. This is nonsense.

And of course, the best way to point this out is an existence proof. Apple’s current iPhone 11 series are 8.1mm and 8.3mm thick, depending the model. The Moto Z3 Play is 6.75mm thick, and it uses the Type-C jack.

These days, the thickness of a phone is primarily driven by the camera system. You can’t cheat optical physics, plain and simple. Apple had to make thicker phones in order to deliver a better camera.

Secondarily, the thickness of a phone allows for more battery. I suspect it’s more along the lines of “hey, we need this 8mm for the camera, why not include a larger battery” kind of thing, than the battery being a prime concern. The Moto Z3 Play had a moderately sized 3000mAh battery, but it also supported “Moto Mods”… an add-on module for expansion, which included several add-on battery options.

Did you know Why no one invented a battery for smartphones which can last a few weeks?

18,000mAh Li-ion battery, it offered 50 days  No one wanted it. This is the Energizer P18K Pop Smartphone… yup, a smartphone. With an 18,000mAh Li-ion battery, it offered 50 days of cellular standby time. Based on a mid-range MediaTek Helio P70 SOC and a moderate LCD resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels, you might expect it to make it two weeks on a charge. My ZTE Axon 10 Pro manages a typical 3 days from a 4000mAhr battery, more DRAM, and a higher-end processor. That’s certainly brute-forcing it, but what other option do you have? iPhone 11 Pro is, by comparison This one, however, is real. This is the Blackview BV9100, which sports a 12000mAh built-in battery (labelled 13000mAh, but 12000mAh in testing), with 30W wired charging, in a rugged case. They sell this as an “outdoor smartphone.” It’s running the MediaTek Helio P35 processor, a low-end 8 core processor, all cores ARM Cortex A53, along with 4GiB RAM (LPDDR4X) and 64GB flash (eMMC). So certainly usable, and available for about $250
